About L.S. JAMES

Artist’s Statement “..looking at cloud formations as a child, I now do with my own four. I learn from my little ones the impulse to draw, paint and doodle what they feel, see or just plain whatever. But before they arrived, I learnt that the God of the ancient Hebrews created all things by His spoken Word. HE called what was not into existence. Thus, it reasons that the uncanny intuition to create was the impartation of a divine seed that began at my conversion. With the gradual spiritual transformation came the artistry to write songs, poetry, prose. Painting too became a medium to express a personal outlook. In spite of the lack of a formal education in art, there was sent an unlikely mob to school and inspire viz. Michelangelo: diligent, passionate, maneuvering the human form like he was God. Only in latter years did he assume his divine calling and pursued it relentlessly. Vincent van Gogh: the proverbial mad artist – self-assured, brilliant, a lay preacher who dumped the pulpit for the palette. And what more of the revolutionary cubists and their search for simplicity? As for the bizarre within, I took comfort in Dali. And so the journey goes, held by a vision and a revelation. To be obedient and take the road less-traveled requires a tenacity to budge the trend, to do the unseemly, the unexplainable even the contradicting. (How could a good God command Abraham to sacrifice his only son Isaac – the heir of the promise – in the land of Canaan where child sacrifice was performed by pagans! Still, Abraham obeyed God wholeheartedly and believed God for more) Larry James (b.1963) is a local artist who focuses on Judeo-Christian themes. He is the author and illustrator of Abraham’s Journey to Christ (2005), a thematic survey of the biblical Faith as conveyed by ‘the people of the Book’ that runs a fine thread through the Old Testament, the Intertestamental Period, the New Testament, meandering through secular history up to the birth of modern Israel on 14 May 1948. In short, the Creation, the Fall, Redemption and Restoration. The writing is accompanied by 143 original paintings scanned into print (Hardcover, 224pp @ $50.00 email: larryjames@singnet.com.sg). The forward was penned by you Rev. Alfred Ang, Senior Pastor of Emmanuel Assembly of God and another by Rev Dr Quek Swee Hwa, Dean of Biblical Graduate School of Theology (BGST) and Senior Pastor of Zion Bible-Presbyterian Church (Bishan). SIGNS. An Eschatological Motif by L.S. James in prose, poetry and painting © 2014 There will be blood and some will burn! Foreword “The work of Larry James brings out the reality of the Biblical narrative in striking colours and is thus a stirring invitation to the viewers to have their own personal narratives joined to the life brought to us by Jesus Christ!” LT. [Lawrence Theodore Jeyachandran] Executive Director, Ravi Zacharias International Ministries (Asia-Pacific) April 2003-September 2012. Preface Why this? While interacting with the online Judeo-Christian community for some recent months, I was quickened in the spirit to the reality of man’s depravity and moral decay. With this stark truth came the dire need to inform the uninformed, the concerned and the careless of what is and what is to come in the twinkling of an eye: the apocalyptic age. There will be blood and some will burn! But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. All rights reserved Acknowledgment Glory to God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, thanking Him for inspiring and sanctifying the work And for the scholarly work of the saints who labored to disciple men in sound doctrine This book is especially dedicated to my late father Jacob James And to those who have walked the extra mile with this eccentric – thank you Lastly, thank You Holy Spirit, without whom there would not be this synergy. For in the call to pen and illustrate, we have walked further yet nearer to the gallows of public humiliation. Perhaps some may discern the indelible marks where the Lord has drawn near and is ever-present. L.S.J

Of Fear and Terror

Salafi jihadism or Jihadist-Salafism is a transnational religious-political ideology based on a belief in violent jihadism and the Salafi movement of returning to (what adherents believe is) “true” Sunni Islam. Salafi jihadism – Wikipedia.

Of Fear and Terror. Fear that drives mankind into fearful submission is the doctrine of demons that stems from the pit of hell, and to hell it must return with its minions of fear and rebellion (Revelation 20:11-15 NKJV). To Fear God (Luke 12: 4, 5) is thus the only apt fear that helps man against the inevitable day of Judgment ‘as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment’ (Hebrews 9:27). They will give an account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead (1 Peter 4:5). For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. And again, “The Lord will judge His people.” (Hebrews 10:30). And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:5).

So, each morning we awaken to receive 86,400 seconds as a gift of life. Woe betide, should some light the fuse for others that altogether brings them before the throne of their Creator, God and Judge: Christ Jesus. There will be blood and some will burn!

Fear, on the other hand, has no hold on the Christian pilgrim: For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Thessalonians 5:9). For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). LSJ

So why this? Eternity beckons while life on earth is hinged on a breath! For all our days have passed away in Your wrath; we finish our years like a sigh. The days of our lives are seventy years; and if by reason of strength they are eighty years, yet their boast is only labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. (Psalm 90:9, 10)
