The cost of faith ~ L.J

The cost of faith

Your life’s a page empty and new
How shall your day be filled, my child?
We romped and raised a jig or two
We tickled and stilled and whistled a while

Alas! the move that beckoned my faith
Has hit the roof with yelling instead
Since selling the shelter over our heads
Prayers said are muddled with hate!

The altar’s down as men usurp
The father’s crown in ceaseless feuds
My God renown, wrest us from (her) worse
Should I stand absolved in Your Truth

Her ashen grey and damn dismay
Has snuffed the joy and scent of life
I while away, a lump of clay,
If not sweet moments of our lives

~ L.S. James (2013)
